Bronze Chinese incense burner dating to 1980–1990, with a pagoda temple lid, dragon-head handles, three lion-head feet, and floral and lotus relief on the bowl, patinated surface, height 19.5 cm, width 13.5 cm, depth 9 cm, weight 790 g, originating from China and in good condition.
Description from the seller
This is a traditional Chinese incense burner (xianglunull香炉) with a distinctive three-piece design: a richly decorated bowl on three legs, dragon handles on either side, and a decorative pagoda lid.
Decorative elements:
Lid: An elegant pagoda with curling roof edges and geometric cut-out motifs, crowned with a double-gourd-shaped knob (symbol of luck and protection)
Handles: Two stylized dragon heads flanking the bowl – dragons are symbols of strength, wisdom, and divine protection
Bowl: Adorned with floral scrollwork and lotus motifs in relief, with a beautiful patina.
Feet: Three lion-head feet evoking stability and power
Cultural context: Incense burners like this were used in temples, altars, and cultured households for ritual ceremonies, meditation, or simply to scent the space. The burning of incense was an essential part of Buddhist and Taoist practices.
