This Land Rover Santana model was the first Land Rover to have a turbocharged diesel engine, even before any british-built versions offered them. It could be considered as the predecesor of the later Land Rover Tdi diesel engines.

The turbo-charger is mild-mannered, adding enough power to make highway trips much more pleasant and will not require downshifting from 5th gear on most highways climbs. It also has 2 separate fuel tanks for added range with a manual switch (blue lever in the pictures) to switch between them. The secondary fuel tank is under the passenger seat.

The top is removable, and the windshield can be folded forward for a real insect eating experience in the summer, although goggles are highly recommended.

The original 2.25 liter engine has been replaced by a completely rebuilt 2.5 liter engine from a Santana 2500 and the original turbo charger has been adapted.

It runs very well due to added oxygenation provided by the turbo charger. The original leaf springs were also replaced with newer parabolic leaf springs from a 2500 DL model. Front wheel hub lockers were added for improved performance and reduced vibration while not on 4WD mode.

It is a pure 100% mechanical beast that will not leave you stranded in the middle of the Sahara desert.  It passes ITV without any issues.

As can be seen in the photos, the front end of the body has been recently restored. But according to the seller, it just needs more love on the body and paint area, as there are some defects on the original paint (please see photos).
