Marketing op z’n best.
De Z3 verscheen kort in de James Bond-film GoldenEye, in een scène waarin Bond in Cuba rijdt. Bond zou de auto uiteindelijk ruilen voor het vliegtuig van Jack Wade. De Z3 is een van de weinige niet-Britse productieauto's die door James Bond is bestuurd in de geschiedenis van de filmfranchise, en de eerste van drie James Bond-films waarin een BMW prominent aanwezig was. Deze breuk met de traditie was te wijten aan een licentieovereenkomst voor drie films tussen BMW en de James Bond-franchise die begon met Goldeneye en eindigde met The World Is Not Enough. De Z3 in GoldenEye is voorzien van stingerraketten verborgen achter de koplampen, een noodparachuteremsysteem en een radarscanner in de vorm van een LCD-scherm in het dashboard.
Tijdens de briefingscène wordt ook opgemerkt dat de auto een schietstoel voor passagiers en een zelfvernietigingssysteem bevat, hoewel deze op geen enkel punt in de film worden gebruikt. De Z3 is ook een van de weinige voertuigen in de Q-Branch die niet in het veld werd vernietigd, dat was dan wel weer verfrissend. Een toffe Roadster kreeg door de filmreeks gelijk een goed imago, want eerlijk, wie wil nou niet vergeleken worden met James Bond-auto’s?

In januari 1995 werden twee blauwe prototypes geleverd voor opnames op het Leavesden Aerodrome. De overeenkomst tussen BMW en Eon Productions betrof de kruispromotie van de auto en de film, en er wisselde geen geld van eigenaar.
De verkoop van de Z3 piekte toen de film op nummer één stond aan de kassa. De volledige productierun van de BMW Z3 roadster uit 1996 -meer dan 15.000 Roadsters- was al uitverkocht tegen de tijd dat de auto werd geïntroduceerd.


Deze Z3, afkomstig van de eerste eigenaresse.
Hij is nieuw aangeschaft op 14-04-1997, door mevrouw de Jongh. Ze heeft de auto zelf samengesteld in een mooie chique groene kleur, met verder niet heel veel spannende opties, wat hem juist mooi puur maakt (uni-groen met het hele typerende BMW-stofje/patroon uit die tijd op de stoelen, op oranje knipper lichten: heerlijk period-correct)
En, ze heeft hem trouw al die jaren bewaard.
Uiteraard kan je als eerste eigenaar de auto verwaarlozen, maar deze is juist keurig onderhouden volgens schema bij de dealer, er is nooit een euro op bezuinigd. 

Alles is ook netjes bewaard:
Een ingevuld onderhoudsboekje (met prijslijst) met onderhoudsfacturen
De hardtop
Een achterruit bescherm hoes bij een dichtgevouwen kap
Complete sleutelsetjes met afstandsbediening (2 stuks)
Zelfs de BMW lakstiften zitten er nog bij

In 2001 is de auto mee naar Engeland verhuisd voor een ruime 14 jaar, de brief hiervan is ook bewaard. Door BMW in Heathrow, London, is de tellerunit toen omgebouwd zodat de snelheden overeen komen. Dit heeft uiteraard geen effect gehad op de tellerstand (het teller rapport is inzichtelijk) Uiteindelijk is de BMW weer mee terug verhuisd naar Nederland, waarbij hij zijn eerste kenteken ook weer retour kreeg. (vanwege een verandering in de relatie is de auto tussentijds eens van naam gewijzigd)

De auto ziet er voor zijn leeftijd ook nog keurig uit. De lak is zeer mooi en kent minimale gebruikssporen, ook het interieur is nog erg fris. Alles werkt ook naar behoren.

Wat je bij de detailfoto’s ziet is dat de dorpel-hoekjes een aandachtspunt is, hier is beginnende roestvorming te vinden. De bodem is verder keurig in orde:
