Een links gestuurde en goed onderhouden Rolls-Royce Phantom V limousine met een volledig aluminium carrosserie van H. J. Mulliner Park Ward.

De handgemaakte Phantom V is gebouwd tussen 1959 en 1968 en werd geheel naar de wensen van de eerste eigenaar samengesteld en er is er dus niet een hetzelfde. In de 9 productiejaren verlieten 151 exemplaren de fabriek met deze H. J. Mulliner Park Ward carrosserie. De hier aangeboden latere versie is voorzien van een iets schuinere voorruit, grotere achterlichten, verchroomde raamstijlen bij de portieren en een scherper gelijnde kofferbak. Deze definitieve vorm was zo geslaagd dat hij grotendeels behouden bleef voor de latere Phantom 6 exemplaren tot 1992 maar helaas toen zonder de suïcidedeuren wat de Phantom 5 nog wel had.

Vanaf 1963 standaard geleverd met de dubbele koplampen en herziene front. Slechts een klein deel daarvan waren links gestuurd en dat zijn de meest gewilde exemplaren bij verzamelaars. De gehele aluminium carrosserie is natuurlijk een groot voordeel ten opzichte van de normale stalen exemplaren.

Bijna alle Phantom V modellen werden gekocht door prominente personen. John Lennon van de Beatles had er twee in bezit. Een zwarte die later in het bekende psychedelische kleurschema werd gespoten en een witte zoals het hier aangeboden exemplaar. Natuurlijk had ook Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 2 er twee beschikbaar voor haar vervoer. 

Ook Elvis Presley, Elton John, koning Olav van Noorwegen, president Tito van Joegoslavië, de Sjah van Iran en Imelda Marcos van de Filipijnen hadden er een. Maar ook voormalige dictators hadden er een in bezit, onder andere Nicolae Ceausescu van Roemenië.

De hier aangeboden Rolls-Royce is in januari 1964 nieuw geleverd in de USA aan Mrs. M. T. Curtiss. In 1996 is de auto naar Europa gekomen en heeft toen een grondige restauratie ondergaan. De Phantom is daarna 27 jaar in bezit gebleven bij dezelfde particuliere Spaanse eigenaar. 

Zeer recent is de auto naar Nederland gehaald en opnieuw helemaal herzien door een gerenommeerde Rolls-Royce specialist. Met name werd nu de techniek volledig onderhanden genomen. De matching V8 is deels gereviseerd en loopt krachtig en erg mooi. 

De automatische versnellingsbak is volledig gecontroleerd en schakelt goed door zijn 4 versnellingen. Het complete remsysteem is volledig gereviseerd met als gevolg dat de auto weer rijdt zoals een goede klassieke Rolls hoort te rijden. 

De kosten van deze revisie waren bijna €18000,- en natuurlijk is deze onderhoudsnota bij de auto aanwezig.

De witte lak is 30 jaar geleden opnieuw gespoten maar altijd nog mooi glanzend. Natuurlijk zijn er lichte gebruikssporen te vinden na al die jaren (zie de foto's), maar de Rolls is nog steeds strak in de lak en alle deuren sluiten als een kluis. 

Alle ruiten zijn groen getint glas wat een mooi contrast is met het chroom van de auto en de witte lak. Het interieur is voorzien van het bekende mooie glanzende wortelnotenhout. Het 60 jaar oude originele Connolly leder voor de chauffeur op de voorstoelen heeft patina en achterin is de bekleding voorzien van "West of England" velours. 

Er is en separatieruit en het originele kabinet met twee "kristallen flessen en glazen. De elektrische bediening van separatieruit is op het moment losgekoppeld. 

De vier portierramen zijn ook elektrisch te bedienen en werken goed. De dikke diagonale white-wall banden hebben ruim voldoende profiel. Al het chroomwerk en roestvrijstaal op de auto is in een uitstekende staat.

Als documenten wordt bij de aflevering meegeleverd een geldig Nederlands kenteken, het bijbehorende originele complete handboek voor de Phantom V inclusief alle detailschema's, een dikke Phantom IV, V en VI bijbel van Martin Bennett met alle informatie uit het verleden van voormalig eigenaren, veel foto's en bouwtekeningen en natuurlijk de nota's van het uitgebreide recente onderhoud. Er zijn ook 2 sleutelsetjes bij de auto aanwezig. 

Wij vinden het fijn als u de auto komt bekijken en proefrijden. Het is een goede, indrukwekkend grote en prachtige Phantom maar het blijft natuurlijk een klassieker. Ook kunt u als iets niet duidelijk is een filmpje aanvragen via Catawiki en dan zorgen we dat u dat krijgt.
