Description from the seller
Classic Mercedes-Benz – exceptionally well-preserved example - 97,000 km
Body, paint and chassis:
The body is absolutely free of any rust, with original seals preserved at the joints. The car presents a pedantic condition. The only elements that required intervention were the rear fenders – scratches and minor dents were removed (photo documentation available). The rest of the car is 99% perfect.
All trims and the undercarriage have been thoroughly cleaned and protected with a renowned product Mike Sanders (cost over €1,800). No element was repaired metalwise – everything remains original.
The paint has been refreshed on about 80% of the surface due to scratches and sunburn traces. Transitions are perfect, with no shade differences. The roof remains in original paint. The car has never been involved in a road accident.
Gaskets were reviewed; four water seals in the door weatherstrips and near the rear windows were replaced (cost €1,900). Remaining seals are in very good condition. All windows and headlights are original. Chrome bumpers are in perfect condition – cleaned and painted from the inside. Chrome around the side windows has localized white haze (probably removable by polishing).
The car has remained in a truly beautiful condition, with original bodywork and a very low mileage of 97,000 km. This is not a restored example, but a wonderfully preserved original, kept with meticulous attention to every detail.
Technical condition:
The engine underwent a complete rebuild about 8 years ago after the car was bought in France. At the time of purchase the unit was seized due to long storage (about 10 years) and improper starting. The rebuild was performed to professional standards, using original parts, with an investment exceeding €11,000. A mechanic with 40 years of experience, who previously restored engines for the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart, carried out the work. Pistons, rings, a full set of bearings were replaced, the head was machined, crankshaft alignment, cylinder honing, two new camshafts installed, and many other components. After the rebuild the car covered about 2,000 km, with oil and filter changes and an additional adjustment. The engine runs smoothly, does not overheat, and maintains maximum oil pressure.
The gearbox has new oil and a filter, shifts smoothly without slipping or jerking. All fluids, filters, oils and drive belts have been replaced and checked.
The braking system has been completely renewed – four new discs, four flexible hoses, new pads, and four calipers refurbished (new seals and pistons). The exhaust system was cleaned and painted; one leak was repaired.
The suspension received four new Kayaba gas shock absorbers and a complete set of new rubber components, including stabilizer links. The fuel injection system (K-Jetronic) was rebuilt and adjusted; the fuel tank was cleaned, the filter replaced, a new BOSCH fuel pump installed, and all fuel lines renewed.
The ignition system is equipped with a new distributor cap, rotor, plugs and high-tension leads from BOSCH. The cooling system has new or verified hoses, and the radiator is leak-free. The electrical system was serviced and repaired, a new battery installed.
Technically the car is flawless – all key components have been renewed and prepared for driving without cost concessions.
Interior condition:
The interior is kept in very good condition. The wood trims are complete and perfectly fitted. Headliner and carpets look very good, all elements are original. Plastics do not have cracks or missing parts.
All functions operate correctly. On the dashboard there are two small cracks under 1 cm (barely noticeable – one behind the instruments, the other near the vent by the front window).
Defects include two small dents on the passenger seat leather upholstery (not cracks or holes) and a radio that recently stopped working – it powers on and lights up, but requires diagnostics.
Documentation:
The original service label in the front doors and the spare wheel service placard are preserved – an interesting collectible detail. Documentation is available, selected invoices, old manuals, and a three-page cost and repair summary (viewable on request).
Reason for sale:
Too large a vehicle collection – it’s time for one of them to find a new owner.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
