Triumph Spitfire Mk1 1964

The first Spitfire was built in 1962. The Italian design came from Michelotti, whilst the mechanical part was almost entirely taken from the Triumph Herald. The last Spitfire was produced in August 1980.  At that time, some 314,342 cars had rolled off the production line; 242,918 of which were exported, most of them went to North America.

Officially known as the Spitfire 4 because of its 4 cylinders. This model was produced from October 1962 to December 1964. It was special as it came standard with disc brakes, something new at the time from formula racing. The engine was from the Herald with 63 bhp, the bonnet which opened in its entirety was very characteristic. A total of 45,573 units were built.

Originally delivered in the Netherlands and a left-hand drive ex works therefore with an 'L' suffix on the chassis number.

There are cosmetic points of attention, these can be seen in the detailed photos. The dashboard has a dryness crack due to exposure to sunlight. The stitching on the driver's seat is partially loose. You could fully respray the green paintwork if you’d like a higher finish. There are several imperfections and blisters under the paint, see photos.

The sills, mudguards, doors, bonnet and boot lid have a fairly good fit.

The car comes with a file with various inspection reports, workshop invoices and a valuation report (April 2021).
