Les fétiches africains Ewe peuvent être utilisés à des fins bénéfiques ou maléfiques. De forme atypique, ce fétiche comporte une épaisse patine d'usage sacrificielle. Les Ewe sont réputés pour la confection de fétiches à l'allure inquiétante dotés de patines complexes. Parfois, ils peuvent aussi se présenter sous la forme de poteaux ou de bols.
Dans l'art africain, les Ewe désignant une antique manifestation religieuse, est composé de  pouvoir, qui veut dire cadavre.
L'usage d'une croix chrétienne témoigne de l'intrication des croyances et pratiques religieuse monothéistes et païennes dans les cultures africaines.
