Volkswagen - SP2 - NO RESERVE - 1975

Volkswagen SP2 1975. * Very rare to see * Powerful and smooth 1.7L boxer engine * 14" 'Melber' wheels * One of the 11,123 cars to be built With a rather hefty import tax and import restrictions, Volkswagen started developing a sports car for its home market in Brazil as a successor to the Karmann-Ghia. Designed by Marcio Piancastelli, José Vicente Novita Martins and Jorge Yamashita Oba, the result was stunningly beautiful. Inspired by Porsche's transaxle series. This second-generation coupé was built in a small series and had a 1.7-litre air-cooled boxer engine in the rear. Production of the SP2 lasted almost 4 years. Only 11,123 were produced. Born out of a company independent of its German bosses, it is arguably the most beautiful and one of the rarest Volkswagens ever built. This stylish Volkswagen SP2 comes from 1975 was made for the Brazilian market. It was registered in the Netherlands in 1984. Originally in yellow, it was later sprayed red. The 1,700cc boxer engine has a four-speed manual gearbox. Equipment includes wide 14" Melber alloy wheels, front disc brakes and four headlights. The interior has manually adjustable seats. The black fabric seats have red centre pieces along with matching black door cards in 'Perlon' style. Additional equipment includes a three-spoke steering wheel, a wooden gear knob and a glove compartment. The gauges on the dashboard include a speedometer, a revolution counter, as well as gauges for engine temperature, voltage, fuel level and an analogue clock. The five-digit odometer shows 23,678 km. A unique opportunity to acquire and drive this rare SP2. It needs some technical TLC as it stood in a collection for the past year and a half. There are also some cosmetic points of attention, these can be seen in the detailed photos. You could fully respray the red paintwork if you’d like a higher finish. Definitely worth it given current market trends. We can also arrange export documents and transport for you. A 2-week insurance is also possible! It has sustained various signs of wear over the years, see photos for more details. This vehicle can be viewed and picked up in Oldemarkt, the Netherlands. You are more than welcome to view this car in our showroom and to take it for a test drive before you place a bid.
