Jaguar SS 100 Recreation

The SS Jaguar 100 is a British 2-seater sports car built between 1936 and 1941 by SS Cars Ltd of Coventry, England.
 A stunning British roadster in the purest style of the 1930s, the Jaguar SS 100 is distinctly sporty with its 6-cylinder engine.
 It was one of the first true 'sports cars' from Jaguar (a brand not called that at the time).
 The SS100 designation indicated that it reached 100 km/h with a 3500cc engine.


Before the height of the Nazi regime in Germany and the negative connotation attached to the initials "SS", the "Sidecar Swallow Company" founded by William Lyons and William Walmsley used the same letters.
 The company was not officially renamed "Jaguar" until after World War II in 1945, but the SS 100 roadster took the Jaguar name in 1936 under Sir Lyons' direction.


The SS 100 was produced in a total of 304 cars and is a favourite among replica manufacturers.
 Original SS 100s are obviously very rare and have become so valuable that their owners rarely market them.
 

Hence, the model is popular with replica builders, some of whom are even recognised by Jaguar clubs.
 There are replicas on the road from various factories around the world, including the Birchfield Motor Company, the Steadman Motor Company, Suffolk Sportscars and the Finch Motor Company.


The car offered here is a JAGUAR SS100 "Duke" replica, built in 1989 on a FORD MUSTANG PINTO chassis in FARGO, North Dakota, USA and was first registered in the state of NEW YORK on 01/07/1989.
 

Its first owner (David Fletcher of Gissonton, Florida) registered it with the Department of Motor Vehicles under registration number NY 35557, as shown on the identification plate affixed to the inner engine panel.


It was then imported into Europe and sold in ITALY in February 2007 (to Mr Antonio RIVA from VERONE); however, the Italian services mention the term "REPLICA" instead of the model name "DUKE"!
 It passed the technical checks and obtained a document from the A.I.V.
 S (ACCADEMIA ITALIANA VEICOLI STORICI).

On 08/04/2016, the vehicle was sold, still in Italy, to Mr Roberto ORIGGI domiciled in Milan.
 He gave us all the documents in his possession; all technical checks have been respected: 2010/2012/2014/2016/2018, showing that this replica meets all European safety standards.
 

We bought the car from him on 30/08/2018 and it was registered in France on 26/02/2021 under the heading "Véhicule de Collection".

It has a soft top and side closure, a jack compartment and tools for changing tyres.


The car is in very good condition, the wire wheels and tyres are 1 year old, the battery is new.
 The bodywork is in perfect condition, apart from a scratch on the bonnet due to a stone on the road.
 

The engine, brakes and gearbox work perfectly and underwent a technical inspection in 2021.
 A further roadworthiness check is not due until 06/11/2025 (if it remains in France).
 

The interior lining is still the original from 1998 and is in good condition.
 This also applies to the floor coverings that have normal wear and tear.
 Funnily enough, this car has a radio with CD player !


Solid car, good handling and very good pick-up, fun to drive, can participate in classic car rallies.


It is on display at Port de Lanne (France).
