NO RESERVE: 1959 Citroën 2CV AZLP.

This year Citroën celebrated the 75th anniversary of its most iconic car: the 2CV. 
Created in Citroën's design office on Rue du Théâtre in Paris, the 2CV was unveiled to the public at the Paris Motor Show on the 7th October 1948. 
The 2CV enjoyed an exceptional career: a total of 5,114,969 units were produced (including 1,246,335 2CV vans). 
The very last 2CV left the Mangualde factory in Portugal at 4 PM on 27 July 1990, 42 years after its launch.

This original and rare AZLP model with the much sought after rippled bonnet has been sympathetically restored to a good condition yet still has many original features.

About this car:
Last registered in the Normandie area of France before being imported into the UK in 2015. The current owner, who is an enthusiast, bought this exceptional example of French automotive history for a film project last year and had the speedometer professionally rebuilt. 

The car has a new fuel pump as well as a UK V5 certificate, having passed the MOT (purely for technical reassurance, this is not a UK requirement for vintage cars) and comes with a selection of spare parts.

Exterior:
Wheels and Tyres: the original steel painted wheels are in very good condition, with minimal signs of wear. 
The Firestone tyres still have a lot of tread and appear to be less than 10 years old.

Bodywork:
The car has recently been lightly restored. 
The floorpan is very solid, with no issues in the pedal wells, seat belt anchors, inner wings or boot floor. 
The exterior panels are straight and well-mounted with no significant blemishes on the body, just a few signs of age on the A-pillars. 
The doors open and close easily, with no issues with the hinges or door catches. 
The characteristic rippled bonnet is in good shape, with only a few metal imperfections due to age.

Paint:
The paint has been well applied with an even hue and good colour match throughout. It has a light patina but this suits the character and age of the car very well. 
There are no significant signs of road use, chips or damage on the car, other than the odd light mark.

Glass and Trim
The aluminium trim is all complete with some of the brightwork showing a little age but very good considering the car is from 1959.
The glass is good, with decent seals. 
The indicators have faded a little but are still fully operational. 
The rear lights are very good, with no issues with the headlamps. 
The car also comes with a pair of headlamp muffs. 
The bumpers are solid, but the offside rear wing guard has a light fracture.

Interior:
The cabin is neatly presented with many of its original features intact.

Seats and Carpets:
The seat fabrics and frames are in very good condition with no damage, these were well restored.
The car has been fitted with an aftermarket carpet which is a good fit in place of rubber mats you usually get.

Dashboard:
The dashboard has some patina and displays well with a tidy layout and no issues. 
The basic equipment all functions, with the speedometer being subject to a recent overhaul. 
The main panel and controls are in good condition, with the clockwork timed indicator working as it should. The door cards are in very good order. 
This model uses road speed-related windscreen wipers.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick:
The steering wheel is in very good condition, with the gear control showing very little wear. These were renovated.

Mechanics:
There's a sophisticated philosophy behind that mechanical simplicity, a reason why the 2CV still has a cult following to this day.

Engine and Gearbox
The 425cc starts well, and the distinctive air-cooled engine chatters away with no misfiring or exaggerated clicking noises. 
It sometimes puffs out a little smoke on start-up, but once warmed up there is nothing to indicate any engine issues.
The gearbox engages well with no slackness or crunching. 
The car has been fitted with a new fuel pump.

Suspension and Brakes:
One of the 2CV's characteristics is the self-levelling suspension design, which is still effective. 
It rides beautifully with no unwanted noises coming from the arms or wheels. The braking is even and free of screeching with a good bite.
Steering is positive and sturdy with no significant signs of play.

Electrics and Other:
All electrics are in order. 
The roof is in good condition and rolls back with no issues. 
The car comes with a box of spare parts, including its original French issue plates. 
Currently, the car is fitted with age related period black/silver registration plates. 
The car is stored in a private collection and is located and registered in the UK but specialist transport to Europe can easily be arranged with a fee.
