Complete Set with Attractive Colour Plates

Complete set of four volumes within two large books. The first book contains volume I, II, and the second book contains volume III, IV. Richly illustrated with 160 colour plates (40 per Volume), printed on quality papers, by Thorburn, and others; more like finished paintings than prints. Several black and white in-text drawings. Illustrated capital letter to each chapter head.

The set include some rarer species such as the Redstart, Capercaillie, Pipit, Dunlin etc. Also for each bird at the end of the section is a further drawing as an end-piece, hence each bird has three types of illustration. The fourth volume contains a section entitled "Eggs and Egg-Collecting" by R. Kearton, and Classified and General Indices to all four volumes. 

Published by Cassell and Company Limited, London, 1901. The two volumes are bound in half leather with dark red boards. Spines with six bands, the titles are in gilt to compartments two and four.

Book Dimensions: 20 x 14 and Number of Pages: 160, 160, 160, 176 including Classified Index and General Index.

Condition
Firm and well-bound copies. External covers are worn at corners and edges, with some scuffing to the leather. Internally; the two volumes are in very good condition. A name with neat ink on top inside front cover page of both volumes. Inner hinges are very good, and pages are tightly held at gutters. Pages are generally clean, with occasional foxing marks to the margin of few pages and page edges. The plates are bright and fresh (Please see pictures).
