Modernisering & Facelift van de R129: In 1998 onderging de R129-serie een grote facelift. De SL kreeg vernieuwde bumpers met meegespoten stootstrips, modernere koplampen met xenontechniek en strakgetrokken achterlichten. Het kenmerkende ribbelprofiel bleef behouden, maar kreeg een verfijndere afwerking.

Ook het interieur werd geüpdatet met een nieuw stuurwiel, strakkere deurpanelen en een gemoderniseerde middenconsole, waardoor zelfs een latere R129 perfect met zijn tijd meeging.
