Met lichte jaloezie stapte ik in, want wat een super toffe 900 om alleen al te zien. Bij het starten natuurlijk het typerende geluid van een oude Saab en na een ritje met het dak open was ik verkocht… De Saab 900 Turbo S cabriolet Intercooler, dat klinkt al 90’s. Zelf ben ik ook groot Saab cabrio liefhebber, met als eigen dailydriver een 93 cabriolet met slechts 476.000 km, maar dit exemplaar reed minstens -al niet beter- dan m’n eigen, maar dan nog stukken leuker. En het grappige, na de testrit kwam later in het gesprek naar voren wat ie had gereden, een kleine 412.000 kilometer, en je vernam het eerlijk niet eens. 

Het is geen garage-queen maar een levensgenieter, deze Saab heeft het leven geleefd wat je elke klassieker gunt. Zo is hij met de huidige eigenaar nog mee gegaan naar Zuid-Frankrijk (3x), wintersport en een rondreis naar de Noordkaap (de 900 heeft meer van de wereld mogen zien dan menig Nederlander;-) Een paar toffe foto’s hiervan staan aan het eind van de rapportage. 

De Saab is zijn leven begonnen in Italië als EP (wat mede ook gezorgd heeft dat de bodem nu nog zo mooi hard is). In Nederland heeft hij bij 360.000 kilometer een nieuw Full-pressure Turbo motorblok gekregen met intercooler. Ook met een airco aansluiting, enkel moet daarvoor nog een nieuw pomp aansloten worden. De motor en versnellingsbak zijn super, hij rijdt erg fijn. In de verte hoor je een tik achter bij drempels, de achteras rubbers zijn niet meer goed.

Als Saab liefhebber zie de stijl-neus, deze conversie is zelf uitgevoerd, van zalm-neus naar stijl-neus. Dit maakt het een erg unieke 900 cabrio om te zien, gezien er destijds nieuw maar 250 ooit van zijn gebouwd. Dit maakt ‘m de 251e.
De auto heeft natuurlijk z’n onderhoud gehad door deze liefhebber, daardoor heeft hij ook al deze reizen kunnen maken zonder gedoe. De remmen zijn rondom gereviseerd. Een plekje op de a-stijl is zichtbaar, die moet eigenlijk ter zijnde tijd even aangepakt worden, even als een beginnend plekje in de kofferbak ruimte, verder is het een super tof exemplaar. 

Het exterieur ziet er nog goed uit, zeker gezien zijn leeftijd. Het interieur heeft wel zijn gebruikssporen zoals je ziet op de foto’s, maar is absoluut nog wel wat van te maken.
