AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Comprehensive Restoration "Nut & Bolt" and Family Heritage

GENERAL:

The Mercedes-Benz Type 200 (W21) of 1935 represents the brand's technical excellence in the prewar era, standing out for its 6-cylinder inline engine of 1,962 cc that delivers balanced and refined driving. This model was a pioneer in comfort by incorporating an independent suspension system on all four wheels with rear swing axles, an innovation that set the luxury standard of the era. The four-door Limousine configuration on a short wheelbase provides a stately silhouette highly valued internationally.

It is essential to note that this unit preserves its historical authenticity by retaining the original 6V electrical system and certifying the Matching Numbers (engine and chassis numbers) according to the factory records in Stuttgart.

It is a national vehicle with its original period Spanish registration plate. It is not registered as a historic vehicle, maintaining its ordinary administrative status. This car has an exceptional history: it originally belonged to the family, was sold 50 years ago to a private collection, and, after decades of searching, was recovered in 2020. Following its discovery, a complete restoration from scratch was begun to restore it to its original glory. All technical and provenance documentation will be shared with the winning bidder.

Bodywork and Painting

The bodywork has been thorough, following the 'nut and bolt' restoration standard. It was completely dismantled, addressing every imperfection and removing any trace of rust.

After surface preparation and a high-quality primer coat, two coats of paint were applied in an elegant black/gray combination.

The tone was chosen based on the Mercedes-Benz RAL range, after a direct inquiry to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Vehicles department in Stuttgart. Although the factory verified the match of engine and chassis numbers, there was no record of the original color code, so this refined current combination was selected.

MECHANICS:

After remaining inactive since 1976, the mechanical section has been completely rebuilt:

Engine: It has been fully overhauled. Although the engine started after its long idle, it was decided to carry out the complete overhaul to ensure total reliability.

Transmission: The original gearbox was dismantled for technical cleaning and inspection, confirming its flawless operation.

Cooling and Exhaust System: The radiator has been inspected and welded to eliminate leaks, and the exhaust system has been replaced with a new one due to deterioration of the original.

Electrical: The original 6V installation has been retained, adding a battery disconnect switch for greater safety. The battery is new.

Other components: new tubed tires, suspension and springs inspected, horn, windshield wipers, and lighting system fully functional. It has passed the ITV inspection.

Interior:

The cabin has been completely renovated with high-quality materials, scrupulously preserving the aesthetics of the era.

A full upholstery job has been carried out, including the seats, door panels, and the headliner.

The original elements with patina have been carefully preserved and restored, such as the door handles and the original clocks, preserving the essence and the vehicle's unique character.

DOCUMENTATION:

The administrative rehabilitation process has been as meticulous as the mechanical restoration. Since there were no up-to-date records with the Traffic authority, an engineer prepared a condensed technical data sheet, and the technical inspection was passed in order to obtain a modern technical data sheet.

The vehicle has been rehabilitated while keeping its original license plate.

Note about ITV: Under the current DGT regulations for vehicles over 30 years old, the car no longer needs to undergo periodic inspections (although ongoing preventive maintenance is recommended).

PICKUP (IMPORTANT):

To ensure maximum security during delivery and due to the vehicle's exclusivity, shipments are not made. The buyer must personally collect the vehicle at the seller's address. This also allows a final joint inspection before the transfer of ownership.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This isn’t just a restored car; it’s a piece of family heritage that has been recovered and brought to top condition without sparing any expense. The matching-numbers verification by Mercedes-Benz Stuttgart guarantees its value as an investment and a first-rate collectible.

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
