Presentata al salone di Ginevra nel marzo 1981, la seconda generazione[1] venne totalmente ridisegnata dalla Volkswagen, in collaborazione con la Karmann, dal designer tedesco Herbert Schäfer[2]. L'obiettivo era quello di offrire, conservando la meccanica del modello precedente, maggior spazio per i bagagli ed i posti posteriori. Anche gli interni, ora più autonomi rispetto a quelli della berlina, vennero ridisegnati completamente. 

Questa 2° serie, rara in Italia, soprattutto con motorizzazione 1.8cc iniezione da 77cv si presenta in condizioni veramente eccellenti. Originariamente destinata al Nord America, ha i paraurti ad assorbimento di energia come previsto dalla normativa dell'epoca che la rendono ancor più particolare. 
Strumentazione regolarmente europea con contakm e tachimetro in km/h.

Meccanica controllata, perfettamente fuzionante e prestazionale.

Carrozzeria sana, vernice brillante, tutte le decal int/est intatte dell'epoca. Interni perfetti senza partciolari segni di usura.

Dotata di Certificato di Rilevanza Storica ASI.
