Francisco Hidalgo (1929-2009), a Spanish-born photographer who won global acclaim in the 1970s and ’80s for his images of the world’s great cities, has died in Paris, reports the Agence France-Presse. He was eighty.
A native of Andalucia, in southern Spain, Hidalgo studied fine arts in Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris. A job in French television as an illustrator eventually led him into photography.
From 1963 he traveled the world, taking dazzling color cityscapes of Paris, London, New York, and Hong Kong, among other metropolises and exhibiting his work in galleries in those same cities.
